Sorong
Indonesia
Airport Tourism
Sorong is the port city at the western tip of New Guinea and the doorway to Raja Ampat: every journey to the islands begins here, with the morning ferry to Waisai crossing water so rich it holds more fish and coral species than anywhere else on Earth. The city itself is a working harbour town — fuel, supplies, last ATMs and dive-shop logistics — but it earns a stay: the sunset over the Dampier Strait from the waterfront warungs is superb, and nearby islets offer a first taste of Papuan reefs. Domine Eduard Osok Airport links Sorong with Jakarta, Makassar and the rest of the archipelago.
