Tourism

Pyin Oo Lwin, formerly known as Maymyo, is a hill station at 1,070 metres altitude that the British developed as a cool retreat from the lowland heat during the colonial era. The town retains a charming mix of Victorian architecture, horse-drawn carriages (still in regular use), and the vast National Kandawgyi Botanical Garden filled with orchids, waterfalls, and a lake. Its cooler climate and strawberry farms make it a popular weekend escape from Mandalay.
