Tachileik is a border town in Shan State facing the Thai town of Mae Sai across the Sai River, in the heart of the Golden Triangle region. It is a popular day-trip destination from Mae Sai and serves as the entry point for travellers heading to Kengtung and the surrounding Shan hill tribe villages. The town has a lively market popular with Thai day-trippers.
