Dawei (Tanintharyi Region)

Dawei (Tavoy) is the capital of the Tanintharyi Region in the far south of Myanmar, gateway to one of Southeast Asia's most pristine and undeveloped coastlines. The beaches of Maungmagan, San Maria, and Tizit feature white sand and crystal-clear water with virtually no tourist infrastructure, offering a glimpse of what Thai beaches looked like decades ago. The old quarter of Dawei has well-preserved wooden houses and a relaxed atmosphere, while the surrounding forest is one of the last refuges of the Indochinese tiger.
