Tourism
Chitwan National Park is Nepal's first national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the lowland Terai jungle, home to one of the last wild populations of the one-horned rhinoceros as well as Bengal tigers, gharial crocodiles, leopards, and over 500 bird species. Jungle activities include elephant-back safaris, canoe rides on the Rapti and Narayani rivers, jeep safaris, and walking tours with experienced naturalist guides. The Tharu cultural villages surrounding the park offer insight into the indigenous people who have lived alongside wildlife in the Terai for centuries.
