Borobudur is a 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist temple in Central Java, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the largest Buddhist monument in the world, comprising nearly two million stone blocks arranged in nine stacked platforms crowned by a central dome. The monument's four kilometres of relief panels narrate Buddhist teachings and Javanese life with extraordinary detail and artistry, making it as much a textbook carved in stone as a place of worship.
