Kota Kinabalu is the capital of Sabah state on the island of Borneo, a gateway city for one of Southeast Asia's most biodiverse regions. Mount Kinabalu — at 4,095 metres the highest peak between the Himalayas and New Guinea — dominates the nearby national park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
