Trat is a small province in Thailand's eastern seaboard near the Cambodian border, best known as the gateway to Ko Chang — Thailand's second-largest island with jungle-covered mountains, waterfalls, and some of the Gulf of Thailand's last relatively undeveloped beaches. Trat town itself has a pleasant old quarter and the nearby Khlong Yai border crossing provides access to Cambodia.
