Pleiku is the capital of Gia Lai province in Vietnam's Central Highlands, a plateau city at 800 metres altitude with a cooler climate than the coast. The region is home to Bahnar and Jarai ethnic minority peoples with distinctive communal houses and traditional culture, and the Bien Ho 'sea of forests' crater lake just outside the city is a scenic attraction.
