Sigiriya

Sigiriya is an ancient rock fortress and palace rising 180 metres above the surrounding jungle, built by King Kashyapa in the 5th century AD and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The climb to the summit passes remarkable frescoes of celestial maidens painted on the rock face, the famous Mirror Wall inscribed with ancient graffiti, and two enormous lion paws that once formed the entrance to the summit palace. The views from the top across the flat plains of the Cultural Triangle are breathtaking.
