Tioman Island (Pulau Tioman) is a large, mountainous island off the east coast of Pahang, a UNESCO-designated biosphere reserve covered in primary rainforest with a dramatic ridge of twin peaks — the legendary dragon's horns — rising to 1,049 metres. The clear waters shelter excellent dive sites including German Channel, Labas Island, and Tiger Reef, while the jungle interior harbours hornbills, monitor lizards, and the rare slow loris. The villages of Salang, Air Batang (ABC), and Juara each offer a distinct atmosphere ranging from lively backpacker scene to near-complete isolation. Tioman is accessible by high-speed ferry from Mersing (about 1.5 hours) or Tanjung Gemok jetty in Pahang (about 1 hour), and has its own small airport with direct flights from Subang (SZB) via Berjaya Air. The island is generally closed from November to February due to the northeast monsoon.
