Sakon Nakhon is a province in northeastern Thailand beside the large Nong Han lake, and an important Buddhist centre — the province was home to several revered forest meditation masters including Ajahn Mun and Ajahn Fan, whose forest monasteries attract pilgrims from across Thailand. The nearby Phu Phan National Park offers forested mountain scenery and the historic Phu Phan Palace.
