Ranong is Thailand's wettest and least-visited southern province, a mountainous region bordering Myanmar known for its natural hot springs, the pristine Mu Ko Ranong Marine National Park, and as the jumping-off point for the largely undeveloped Mergui Archipelago in Myanmar waters. The Kawthaung border crossing to Myanmar is located opposite the town.
