Ko Tao
Thailand
Tourism
Ko Tao (Turtle Island) is a small island in the Gulf of Thailand, one of the world's most popular destinations to learn to scuba dive — its sheltered waters, healthy coral gardens, and abundance of turtles, whale sharks, and reef fish attract hundreds of dive schools catering to every level. Sairee Beach, the main strip, has a good range of restaurants and bars. The rocky Japanese Gardens snorkel site and Shark Bay (Ao Leuk) are highlights accessible without tanks. Ko Tao is reached by ferry from Surat Thani (5–8 hours depending on vessel), Ko Samui (3 hours), or Ko Pha Ngan (1.5 hours). There is no airport; the nearest gateways are Surat Thani (URT) and Ko Samui (USM).
