Heavy overnight and morning downpours are common, though the city's superb drainage means surface flooding is rare and brief. Despite the rain, December is the peak tourism month: Christmas illuminations on Orchard Road are spectacular, the New Year's Eve fireworks over Marina Bay Sands are world-class, and hotels fill early.
