Ninh Binh is a province south of Hanoi often called 'Ha Long Bay on Land' for its dramatic karst limestone peaks rising from rice paddies and river valleys. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Trang An offers scenic boat rides through caves and grottoes, while the ancient capital of Hoa Lu and the hilltop pagoda of Bich Dong are nearby highlights. The area is also a gateway to Cuc Phuong National Park, Vietnam's oldest national park.
