Chinese ordinary passport holders, citizens of all ASEAN member states (Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand), Russian citizens, and South Korean citizens may enter Laos visa-free for up to 30 days. No prior application is needed — the exemption is stamped on arrival at any international entry point including airports and all land crossings. The China exemption reflects the deep bilateral relationship anchored by the Laos-China Railway which opened in December 2021. ASEAN members enjoy reciprocal free entry under the ASEAN mutual visa exemption framework. Russia and South Korea each hold standalone bilateral 30-day exemption agreements with Laos. For longer stays, an extension of 30 days can be requested at any Lao immigration office.
