Vietnam's e-Visa system was significantly upgraded in August 2023: the stay duration increased from 30 to 90 days, single-entry was replaced by multiple-entry, and the fee was set at USD 25. Applications are processed at evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn and take approximately 3 business days. The e-Visa is accepted at all international airports, major land border crossings (Moc Bai, Lao Bao, Ha Tien, Tay Trang, Nam Phao, etc.), and designated seaports. Holders can enter multiple times during the 90-day validity. Nationalities such as US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, Israel, Turkey, UAE, South Africa, Ireland, and Greece use the e-Visa as their standard entry route since they are not on Vietnam's 45-day unilateral exemption list. For Chinese citizens, the e-Visa covers stays beyond 15 days. Nepalese and Sri Lankan passport holders also use this as their primary entry route.

Spain, France, Germany, UK, and 20+ other countries benefit from Vietnam's 45-day unilateral visa exemption. The programme was launched in August 2023 for 13 countries and significantly expanded in August 2025 to include Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Portugal, Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Croatia, and Bulgaria. Passport holders from all covered nations may enter Vietnam without any prior application for stays of up to 45 days, with unlimited multiple entries. There is no mandatory waiting period between visits. The exemption is stamped on arrival at any international port of entry. The passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry. For longer stays or work purposes, the 90-day e-Visa (USD 25) is the recommended alternative.
