The Tuas Checkpoint is Singapore's second land border crossing, handling traffic over the 1.92-kilometre Malaysia–Singapore Second Link bridge that connects Tuas (Singapore's industrial west) with Gelang Patah in Johor. It opened in 1998 to relieve pressure on the Woodlands Causeway and today handles primarily private vehicles and commercial lorries serving Singapore's massive port and industrial zones. There is no regular public bus or pedestrian crossing facility here — this is not a practical choice for foot travellers. The checkpoint operates 24 hours and is significantly less congested than Woodlands, particularly during peak hours and Malaysian public holidays. Like all Singapore crossings, it is completely safe and corruption-free. The Johor Premium Outlets mall on the Malaysian side has made Gelang Patah a shopping draw for Singaporeans, adding leisure traffic to the industrial flow.
