The Woodlands Checkpoint is Singapore's main land border gateway, handling pedestrian, bus, car, and rail traffic across the 1-kilometre Johor–Singapore Causeway — widely considered the world's busiest land border crossing, with over 300,000 daily crossings. The process entering Singapore is among the most technologically advanced in the world: automated passport gates (ABIGate) handle eligible nationalities in seconds, and Singapore's Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) maintains a zero-tolerance policy on corruption of any kind — it simply does not exist at this crossing. The facility operates 24 hours. Buses run from JB Sentral bus terminal directly to Singapore city centre; taxis are available on both sides. Singapore visa exemption covers most Western and East Asian passports for 30–90 days on arrival. Singapore is one of the safest countries in the world — crime at and around the border area is negligible. An interesting quirk: Singapore uses significantly cheaper Malaysian petrol (Singaporean cars must have at least 3/4 tank when leaving Singapore, enforced by random checks), and Johor Bahru petrol stations near the causeway cater almost exclusively to Singaporean cars.
