🚌 Kaoam Samnor Border Checkpoint (K'am Samnar)

K'am Samnar–Vinh Xuong is a remote Mekong River crossing in Kandal Province, used mainly by the slow-boat route between Phnom Penh and Chau Doc in Vietnam's Mekong Delta. The Vietnamese side, Vinh Xuong, lies in An Giang Province. The crossing is far less visited than Bavet and has a frontier-town feel: facilities on both sides are minimal, and the immigration process can be slow and informal. Visa-on-arrival is available on the Cambodian side but the Vietnamese side does not offer it — you must have a pre-arranged e-Visa or sticker visa for Vietnam before arriving here. The river scenery along this stretch of the Mekong is genuinely beautiful, with floating villages, wooden boats, and water buffalo on the banks. Minor unofficial fees are common; having small dollar bills ready avoids delays. The crossing is peaceful and low-risk, but its remoteness means that if any problem arises, help is not immediately at hand. For most travellers, the Bavet–Moc Bai crossing is more practical, but those doing the Mekong boat journey will find this crossing a memorable way to enter or exit Cambodia.
