🚌 Tebedu – Entikong (Borneo)

The Tebedu–Entikong crossing is the only functional overland border between Malaysia (Sarawak) and Indonesia (West Kalimantan) on the vast island of Borneo, making it unique and strategically important for the overland traveller determined to cross Borneo by land. The crossing connects Kuching (the charming Sarawak capital, 90 km north of Tebedu) with Pontianak (West Kalimantan's capital, about 4–5 hours south of Entikong). Buses cover both legs. The border is open daily roughly 7:00 to 17:00. Indonesia visa-on-arrival is available for most nationalities at this crossing; check eligibility in advance as the list is not universal. The Malaysian side at Tebedu is well-managed and typically efficient. The Indonesian side at Entikong is more chaotic and slower — luggage checks can be thorough and the facility is basic. Minor informal fees have been reported on the Indonesian side, typically small amounts. The surrounding environment is lush tropical rainforest — this is the heart of Borneo, and orangutan habitat begins not far from the road. For the adventurous overland traveller, crossing here feels like a genuine jungle frontier experience.
