🚌 Laos Vietnam Lao Bao - Dansavanh
Terrestrial · Laos
The Dansavanh–Lao Bao crossing on Route 9 is the busiest and most important Lao-Vietnamese land border, connecting central Laos (Savannakhet) with central Vietnam (Dong Ha, near Hue and Danang). It lies on the historic Ho Chi Minh Trail corridor and is one of the main commercial arteries between the two countries. Buses run from Savannakhet and Pakse on the Lao side, and from Dong Ha, Hue, and Danang on the Vietnamese side. The border is open daily 7:00 to 19:00. Both Laos e-Visa and Vietnam e-Visa are accepted here. The crossing itself is efficient and well-organised — the two immigration halls are close together and the process is usually done within 30–45 minutes. No significant corruption has been reported at this crossing; it operates in a professional manner befitting its status as a major commercial gateway. The surrounding landscape is red-laterite hills with scattered forest, and the Vietnamese side of the Truong Son Mountains (Annamite Range) is particularly dramatic. Lao Bao on the Vietnamese side is a special economic zone and duty-free market, popular with Vietnamese shoppers from the coast.
